Breeders' Cup 2026: Dates, Place and Classic Post Time

Breeders' Cup 2026 runs Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. The $7 million Longines Breeders' Cup Classic, the weekend's headline race, is set for 6:16 p.m. ET on Saturday, live on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

Organizers released the full post times and TV plan on Sept. 22. This is the 43rd Breeders' Cup: 14 Grade 1 championship races worth more than $34 million in purses and awards, with individual purses from $1 million to $7 million.

It's Keeneland's fourth time as host, after 2015, 2020 and 2022. American Pharoah capped his Triple Crown year with a Classic win here in 2015, and Flightline won the 2022 Classic by a record 8¼ lengths. This year, Championship Saturday also lands on Halloween.

Good to know: race order and post times can still change. The Breeders' Cup plans to confirm the final order and times on Oct. 21.

Breeders' Cup 2026 Schedule: All 14 Races and Post Times

Every race below is a Grade 1, the top level in the sport, and every runner is a Thoroughbred (meet the breed in our breeds guide). Times are Eastern. "Turf" means grass; "dirt" is the main track.

Friday, Oct. 30: Future Stars Friday

All five Friday races are for 2-year-olds, called juveniles. Many of next spring's Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks hopefuls run here, so Friday is a sneak peek at the 2027 Triple Crown trail.

The Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies are Friday's richest races, at $2 million each.

Saturday, Oct. 31: Championship Saturday

Saturday belongs to older horses, 3-year-olds and up. The card builds from sprinters to the Classic, which is back in its traditional spot as the last race of the weekend.

The Turf ($5 million) and the Classic ($7 million, at 1¼ miles) are the two richest races. Official names include sponsors, such as the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic.

How to Watch the Breeders' Cup on TV and Streaming

NBC Sports has 10.5 hours of live coverage across both days, including all 14 championship races.

• Friday: USA Network, 1-6 p.m. ET.
• Saturday: USA Network, 1-3:30 p.m. ET, then NBC, 3:30-6:30 p.m. ET. The first four Saturday races air on USA; the last five, including the Classic, are on NBC.
• Streaming: Peacock (a paid service) and FanDuel TV carry live coverage both days.
• Official channels: the Breeders' Cup streams coverage on its YouTube, Facebook and X accounts, at BreedersCup.com and in the Breeders' Cup app.
• In Spanish: DRF en Español plans live Spanish-language coverage on drfenespanol.com, X and YouTube, plus its "Desayunos en las Breeders' Cup" programs during the last week of October.
• Outside the U.S.: the broadcast goes to more than 182 territories, so check your local sports channels.

Breeders' Cup Classic post time in your time zone

U.S. clocks don't fall back until Sunday, Nov. 1, so Saturday is still on daylight time.

• Eastern: 6:16 p.m.
• Central: 5:16 p.m.
• Mountain: 4:16 p.m. (Arizona: 3:16 p.m.)
• Pacific: 3:16 p.m.
• U.K.: 10:16 p.m.
• Japan: 7:16 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1

The Horses to Know Before the Classic

Fields aren't final, and the Classic takes a maximum of 14 starters. Many contenders qualify through the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series: winners of 95 "Win and You're In" races in 14 countries get an automatic spot with entry fees paid.

Forever Young, the defending champion

The 5-year-old from Japan won last year's Classic at Del Mar, the first horse from Japan to do it. He has also won the $20 million Saudi Cup twice, in 2025 and 2026.

On Sept. 18 he won the Jockey Club Gold Cup by 3¼ lengths as the rebuilt Belmont Park reopened. Trainer Yoshito Yahagi plans to keep him at Belmont through Oct. 20 before shipping to Keeneland.

Sovereignty, the home-team star

Sovereignty won the 2025 Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Travers and was named 2025 Horse of the Year. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott conditions him for Godolphin, and he won the Whitney Stakes on Aug. 8 by 4¾ lengths.

An abscess in his left hind hoof made him miss two workouts and knocked him out of the Gold Cup in September. Mott now plans to have him ready for the Oct. 31 Classic through training alone, with no prep race.

Knightsbridge and the 3-year-olds

Knightsbridge, Sovereignty's 5-year-old stablemate, won the Pacific Classic at Del Mar by 6¼ lengths to lock in his Classic spot. Among the 3-year-olds, Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo and Preakness winner Napoleon Solo are in the picture. Napoleon Solo was second in the Travers, and his team has been weighing the Classic against the Dirt Mile. Travers winner Leading Change, who won that race in only his third start, may not run at all: trainer Brad Cox has said the colt could wait until 2027.

In the Breeders' Cup's Classic rankings published Sept. 23, Forever Young led with 364 votes, just ahead of Sovereignty (355) and Knightsbridge (296). Magnitude and Golden Tempo rounded out the top five.

Horse-care corner: what's a hoof abscess?

A hoof abscess is a pocket of infection trapped inside the hoof. Because the hoof wall can't swell outward, pressure builds, and a horse can go suddenly and badly lame on one leg.

Going to the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland? Tickets and Race-Week Tips

• Tickets are advance-only. Everything sells through SeatGeek, with no sales at the gate. When tickets launched, Trackside general admission was $85 Friday, $159 Saturday or $244 for both days, so check current availability before you plan a trip.
• Parking and shuttles are advance-only, too. Nothing is sold on-site. Parking on The Hill at Keeneland is $55 Friday, $85 Saturday or $140 for both days, per car. The Blue Grass Airport Park & Ride costs $40, $60 or $100 per car, and its shuttle to the track is free. The downtown Lexington shuttle is $20, $40 or $60 per rider (you need a race ticket to board), and you arrange your own parking downtown.
• Dress codes vary by area, from no formal requirement in general trackside areas to business formal in the Clubhouse.
• Bringing kids? Keeneland's ticket announcement doesn't spell out a children's policy, so check the Breeders' Cup ticket FAQ for age rules before you buy.

Race-week events worth knowing:

• Purple in the Park, Oct. 25, 2-5 p.m., Gatton Park in downtown Lexington: free, with horses, jockey-silks photos, face painting, live music and food trucks.
• "Zenyatta: Treasures of a Queen," Oct. 29, 5-8 p.m. downtown: an exhibit honoring the two-time Breeders' Cup champion mare.

Host a Family Breeders' Cup Watch Party

Championship Saturday falls on Halloween, and the Classic goes off right around trick-or-treat time on the East Coast. Here's a simple plan with no money on the line:

1. Save the schedule. Screenshot the tables above and set an alarm five minutes before each race you care about.
2. Pick a cheer horse. Everyone chooses a horse by name, jockey silks or coat color. Brush up with our coat colors and markings guide.
3. Learn five words. Post time (when the race starts), silks (the jockey's colors), furlong (one-eighth of a mile), juvenile (a 2-year-old) and turf (grass). Our glossary has more.
4. Dress the part. Jockey silks make an easy costume: a bright shirt with big shapes, a helmet-style cap and a number.
5. Watch the post parade. Before each race, horses walk out beside calm lead ponies. Ask kids to spot the differences between the racehorse and its pony buddy.
6. Protect the Classic. Plan dinner or candy runs around 6:16 p.m. ET so nobody misses the roughly two-minute main event.
