What you need

- Helmet fits and is buckled
- Stirrups even
- Girth checked with instructor

Step by step
Do a final helmet buckle check.
Check: Buckled.
Hold the reins and a bit of mane the way your instructor shows.
Check: Hands steady.
Step onto the mounting block and pause (don’t rush).
Check: Horse stands still.
Put your left foot in the stirrup (ask for help) and swing gently over.
Check: I landed softly in the saddle.
Settle, find your balance, and put your right foot in the stirrup.
Check: Both feet in safely.
To dismount: remove feet, lean forward, and slide down slowly with help.
Check: I stayed close and controlled.
