Turn
Changing direction.

What it means
A turn is any change of direction while riding or leading, from a gentle curve along the arena corner to a tight turn around a barrel. On horseback, a good turn uses your eyes, seat, legs, and reins together so the whole horse follows the new line, not just its head.
Why it matters
Horses need balance to turn safely, especially at faster gaits or on slippery ground. Clear, well-prepared turns keep the horse on its feet and help it trust the rider's directions.

Slow down before a turn.
Try this
Look where you want to go first, then turn your shoulders in that direction. Open the inside rein slightly and let the outside rein and leg support the horse so it doesn't swing wide.
Common mistake
Pulling the inside rein alone bends the neck while the body keeps going straight. Slow down before a sharp turn and steer with your whole body, not just your hands.
