What Is Major League Show Jumping? Teams, Standings and Bluman's Greenwich Win

Daniel Bluman and the 11-year-old mare Corbie V.V. were the only pair to jump clear twice in the $340,000 Major League Show Jumping CSI5* Grand Prix at Greenwich, Connecticut, on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026. The class was moved up a day because a Nor'easter was on its way. The win lifts Bluman to No. 2 in the league's individual standings, right behind Kent Farrington.

What is Major League Show Jumping?

Major League Show Jumping (MLSJ) is a North American show jumping league that runs two races at once: a team standings race and an individual standings race, both scored over a season of international five-star (CSI5*) shows. Think of it as a traveling league, where the same franchise teams and top riders meet at each stop, collect points and chase season titles.

The current campaign, Season 6, opened at Angelstone in Toronto in early September 2026. Here's the basic structure:

• Teams: eight franchise teams this season, with rosters of up to six riders.
• Team Competition: three riders per team jump for the team at each leg, over 1.50 m fences.
• Points: teams score from the Qualifier, the Team Competition and the Grand Prix at each leg.
• Individual race: riders build their own ranking from results across the season.
• The tour: nine venues across the U.S., Canada and Mexico, from September 2026 to the end of April 2027, according to a World of Showjumping season guide.

Where the season goes next

The Hudson Valley, Tryon and Thermal dates come from the venues' own event listings; Thermal's two legs are Desert International Horse Park's Desert Holiday weeks. Lexington runs alongside the Kentucky Three-Day Event, April 22-25, 2027, and the season ends right after with the finals at Club Hípico La Silla in Monterrey. MLSJ Greenwich 2026: how Bluman won

The weather shaped everything. With a Nor'easter coming, the Grand Prix was brought forward from Sunday to Saturday and jumped in wet, windy conditions.

Course designers Guilherme Jorge and Oscar Soberon set a generous time allowed for the 33 pairs on the start list. Even so, six withdrew before the class, five retired partway around, and only six reached the jump-off.

Farrington was almost 3 seconds quicker, but one rail dropped him behind the only clear round. That's the whole sport in one result: faults come first, then time.

Why this one meant a lot

• Unfinished business: a year earlier, Bluman finished second in the same Grand Prix, 0.03 seconds behind Farrington.
• A rivalry this season: at the Toronto opener, Farrington and Descartes SR beat Bluman and Corbie V.V. in the 5* Qualifier.
• The horse: Corbie V.V. is a mare by Cornet Obolensky out of a Chacco-Blue dam.

Bluman was born in Medellín, Colombia, and rode for Colombia at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. He has competed for Israel since late 2016.

In the individual race, Farrington still leads. Bluman is now second and Ireland's Shane Sweetnam is third.

Team KPF's big result came the day before the Grand Prix. On Friday, it beat the DIHP Roadrunners in the gold-medal match of the $200,000 Team Competition. That made KPF the first team this season to win back-to-back team classes, after Traverse City.

Show jumping jump-off rules, rails and faults

If you're new to watching, these are the only rules you need to follow a grand prix.

Why a rail costs 4 faults

A knockdown counts when the horse lowers the height or width of a fence, usually by dropping a pole (a rail). Each knockdown adds 4 faults.

A refusal, when the horse stops or runs past a fence, also adds 4 faults. Repeated refusals or a fall end the round.

Time faults

Every round has a time allowed. Under FEI rules, going over it costs 1 fault for each second or part of a second. A generous time allowed, like Greenwich's, means riders can take a safer pace.

How a jump-off works

1. Everyone jumps the first round. Riders with zero faults qualify for the jump-off.
2. The jump-off is a shorter course of fewer fences, and now the clock matters.
3. Results rank by faults first, then by time.
4. A slow clear round beats a fast round with one rail. That's why Bluman beat Farrington.

A double-clear means clear in the first round and clear again in the jump-off.

CSI5* meaning: what the stars tell you

CSI stands for Concours de Saut International, French for international jumping competition. The stars, from 1* to 5*, are the FEI's levels for international shows.

CSI5* is the top tier: the best riders, the biggest fences and the richest prize money. Every MLSJ leg is built around five-star classes, which is why it pulls in Olympians like Farrington, Ward and Bluman.

These three circuits often share the same star riders, which is why people mix them up.

So MLSJ is the North American team league, the Longines Global Champions Tour is the big European-based tour, and the FEI Jumping World Cup is the FEI's worldwide individual qualifying series.
