Focus
Paying attention to one task.

What it means
Focus means paying full attention to what you and the horse are doing right now: your position, your breathing, and where you are going next. Horses notice when a rider is distracted or tense, and they often become more alert or worried themselves.
Why it matters
Around horses, focus is a safety skill. Noticing a pinned ear, a raised head, or a swishing tail early gives you time to react calmly before a small problem becomes a big one.

Focus on your breathing and your hands.
Try this
Before you ride, take three slow breaths and pick one thing to work on, such as heels down or looking ahead. Leave your phone somewhere safe while you handle horses.
Common mistake
Trying to fix everything at once usually leads to frustration. Focusing on one small goal at a time helps both you and the horse learn faster.
