Schleich doesn't list an official scale for its horses. Its grown-up horse figures measure about 5 to 6 inches long, so they're a little bigger than Breyer Stablemates and much smaller than Freedom Series horses.

So Schleich horses and Stablemates can happily share a pretend pasture. But riders, saddles and stables are made for each brand's own horses, so if your child loves tacking up and riding dolls, keep each herd in one line.

• Yàn Wǔ, Year of the Fire Horse: A limited-edition Traditional model released in January for the Chinese zodiac's Fire Horse year, which comes around only once every 60 years. The name means "flame and dance." Price: $59.99.
• Fuego, the 2026 Halloween Horse: A metallic pinto whose white markings are shaped like fire-breathing dragons, and they glow in the dark. It's a 2026 limited edition. Price: $64.99.
• Spooky Surprise Blind Bags, Series 8: Halloween Stablemates named Mini Stitch, Mini Slither and Mini Spectre, two with glow-in-the-dark details. Each bag hides one of the three. Price: $24.99 per bag.
• Mr. Shining Gun: A Hall of Fame Appaloosa in Traditional scale. Price: $49.99.

Breyer also celebrated its 75th anniversary with models that hide tiny horse silhouettes in their coat patterns, and several were on sale in September. One more to watch is Breyer's yearly Holiday Horse. Breyer has announced Holiday Homecoming, a pearly white Thoroughbred stallion in a plaid blanket, for the series' 30th year; it's due in fall or winter 2026 and wasn't in Breyer's online shop yet as of September 23.

Schleich HORSE CLUB and the Ride West game

The big HORSE CLUB news this fall is a video game. HORSE CLUB Ride West comes out October 9, 2026, on Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam. It costs $39.99 on the US Nintendo eShop and is rated E for Everyone.

In the game, the four HORSE CLUB friends travel to Wild River Ranch to learn Western riding, barrel racing and pole bending. In the toy line, Hannah is the Western rider and her horse is Cayenne, a Quarter Horse gelding. For a young fan, the Hannah & Cayenne set ($19.99) or Hannah's Western Adventures ($29.99), a barrel racing set with a Paint Horse, is an easy match.

The other pairs are Lisa and Storm (a Hanoverian), Sofia and Blossom (a snow-white mare) and Sarah and Mystery (an Arabian). Schleich's HORSE CLUB page calls Blossom an Andalusian, while the newest Sofia & Blossom set describes her as an Arabian. Kids who love acting out stories often want to collect all four.

How to start a first herd without paying collector prices

You don't need a limited edition to start a great herd. Try these steps:

1. Pick one main size. Everything fits together, from barns to riders, and your herd looks right side by side.
2. Start with three to five horses. A mare and foal, a pony and a riding horse are plenty for lots of stories.
