Why it's trending
Fasig-Tipton released the catalog for The November Sale on Sept. 30, headlined by two Breeders' Cup winners, and the sale follows the Breeders' Cup by two days.
TL;DR
- The Fasig-Tipton November Sale is a single-session selected mixed sale on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026 in Lexington, starting at 2 p.m. ET.
- The catalog has 208 main entries, including nearly 60 graded stakes winners or producers (23 Grade 1).
- 'Mixed' means race fillies and mares, in-foal broodmares, weanlings and breeding rights all sell together, unlike a yearling sale.
- Learn four terms (hip number, in foal to, covering sire, breeding right) and you can read any catalog page.
- The sale hasn't happened yet: no results exist, so treat everything here as what to watch.

What is the Fasig-Tipton November Sale?
The Fasig-Tipton November Sale is a selected mixed sale of Thoroughbreds, held in a single session on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026 in Lexington, Kentucky, starting at 2 p.m. ET. "Mixed" means the catalog combines racing-age fillies and mares, pregnant broodmares, weanlings and other offerings in one session.
Fasig-Tipton released the catalog on Sept. 30. It lists 208 main-catalog entries, and the sale comes two days after the Breeders' Cup, which is being run at Keeneland this year (see our Breeders' Cup 2026 guide).
What's in the catalog
- Nearly 60 graded stakes winners or producers, 23 of them Grade 1 (new to the term? See what a Grade 1 race is).
- One Eclipse champion and two Breeders' Cup winners.
- Shisospicy, by Mitole: champion female sprinter and winner of last year's Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
- Cy Fair, by Not This Time: winner of last year's Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
- Other Grade 1 winners including Ag Bullet, Clicquot, Fionn, R Disaster, Scottish Lassie and Ways and Means.
- In-foal mares, such as Hip 168, Atomic Blonde (dam of Preakness winner Napoleon Solo), offered in foal to Flightline.
- Selected weanlings, and a lifetime breeding right to the young sire Early Voting.
Several Breeders' Cup hopefuls are cataloged too, and Fasig-Tipton says supplements will be accepted through the Breeders' Cup. Print catalogs arrive the week of Oct. 5, and online and phone bidding are available.
Mixed sale vs yearling sale: what's different?
A yearling sale sells young horses that have never raced, valued on looks, pedigree and X-rays. A mixed sale sells horses with a résumé: race records, foals on the ground and pregnancies. That changes what buyers are really paying for.
For the yearling side of the market, read our Keeneland September Yearling Sale explainer. The table shows the contrast.
| Yearling sale (Keeneland September) | Mixed sale (Fasig-Tipton November) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sells | Young horses, never raced | Race fillies and mares, broodmares, weanlings |
| What you judge | Conformation, pedigree, vet images | Race record, produce record, pedigree |
| Length | Many days, many sessions | One session in this case |
| Buyer goal | Future racehorse | Racing, breeding or both |
"Selected" signals a curated catalog: Fasig-Tipton chooses the entries rather than taking everything offered.
Why sell mares right after the Breeders' Cup?
Timing is the point. A filly who has just run in or won a Breeders' Cup race is at her peak value and visibility, and owners often plan to retire her to the breeding shed anyway. Selling two days later puts her in front of the same worldwide buyers who are already in Kentucky.
In-foal broodmares fit the season too. Mares bred early in the year are pregnant by autumn, so owners can sell them with a foal confirmed by a vet. Weanlings, foals just separated from their mothers in autumn, round out the mix.
One more reason: supplements. Connections with a horse still considering a Breeders' Cup race can enter before the deadline, and then decide about selling after the result.
Four terms to read a catalog page
Hip number
Every horse gets a number, the hip number, taken from the paper tag placed on the horse's hindquarters. It sets the order in the ring and is how you refer to a horse. Example: Hip 168 is Atomic Blonde.
In foal to / covering sire
A mare listed as "in foal to" a stallion is pregnant by him. That stallion is the covering sire, the horse who bred the mare this season. The unborn foal's value is tied to the sire's fee and reputation, so a mare in foal to Flightline, as with Hip 168, carries a different story than a mare in foal to an unproven stallion.
The catalog also states the cover date, meaning the last breeding date. That tells you roughly when she is due to foal.
Breeding right
A breeding right (similar to a stallion season) is not a horse. It is the right to breed one mare to a stallion, in this case a lifetime right to Early Voting. Buyers get the right, not an animal, and its value depends on the stallion's career.
How to read a page and the enhanced catalog
A standard page is a family tree in miniature. Read it in this order:
- Hip number and name, age, sex, and sire/dam at the top.
- Black-type. Bold type in a pedigree marks a stakes winner, and bold capitals mark a graded stakes winner.
- Race record for a mare in training, or her produce record (foals already born) for a broodmare.
- Covering sire and cover date if she is in foal.
- Consignor and sale conditions at the bottom.
The enhanced catalog is the digital upgrade. For this sale, Fasig-Tipton lists Daily Racing Form past performances, race replays, pedigree analysis by Alan Porter, five-cross pedigrees, stallion register pages and feature videos for Grade 1-winning females. It lets you study a horse's runs and pedigree without leaving the page.
What to watch on Nov. 2
The sale has not happened, so nothing here is a result. Use this checklist:
- The Breeders' Cup effect: do horses that ran two days earlier draw attention, and do supplemented entries change the catalog?
- Shisospicy and Cy Fair: how each is presented, as a racing prospect or a breeding prospect.
- In-foal mares: who the covering sires are, including Hip 168 and Hip 202 (In It for the Gold, in foal to Into Mischief).
- Weanlings: for example Hip 90, a Not This Time filly, and Hip 97, a Tiz the Law colt, both with notable relatives.
- The Early Voting breeding right: how a non-horse lot is handled.
- Who is buying: online and phone bidders alongside the people in the room.
We won't predict prices. Final figures will depend on the sale itself.
How to follow along as a newcomer
- Download the catalog or use the enhanced catalog from Fasig-Tipton's site.
- Pick three hips and read each page with the steps above.
- Watch for the Breeders' Cup weekend news, which can change who is offered.
- After the sale, compare your reading with the official results.

Frequently asked questions
When is the Fasig-Tipton November Sale 2026?
It is a single session on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026 in Lexington, Kentucky, starting at 2 p.m. ET, two days after the Breeders' Cup.
What is a selected mixed sale?
It is a curated sale that offers different kinds of horses together: race fillies and mares, in-foal broodmares, weanlings and breeding rights. A yearling sale, by contrast, offers young horses that have not raced.
What does 'in foal to' mean?
It means the mare is pregnant by the named stallion, called the covering sire. The catalog also lists the cover date so buyers can estimate her due date.
What is a breeding right?
A breeding right is the right to breed a mare to a particular stallion. It is not a horse. This sale offers a lifetime breeding right to Early Voting.
What is a hip number?
It is the number assigned to each horse in the sale, shown on a tag on the horse's hindquarters. It sets the order in the ring and identifies the horse in the catalog.
Can anyone bid on Nov. 2?
Fasig-Tipton offers online and phone bidding. Registration details are on its website or through the company directly, so check them well before the sale.
